CAREER DEVELOPMENT

The Department for Career Development is a training facility under the auspices of the Institute for the Blind in conjunction with the Pioneer School. Careers in the open labour market are within the reach of visually impaired persons who qualify by following various National Certificate courses.

These predetermined courses with various subject selections run for 6-month periods, with January and July intakes.   Switchboard as well as Call Centre training on NQF Level 2 are popular subject choices for the visually impaired as both lead to employment in the open labour market. The training and living environments are totally accessible. Students use specially adapted computers and assistive devices.  Individual attention is of great importance and successful students are supported in their efforts to find employment.
